BELLEVILLE — A patient is suing Protestant Memorial Hospital Inc., d/b/a Belleville Memorial Hospital, Memorial Hospital Home Health, Jo Ann Schneider and Memorial Medical Group LLC, alleging she suffered an infection due to improper home health care.
Donna J. Koudelka filed a complaint on Nov. 28 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against the defendants, alleging a failure to provide care after knee surgery.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that as a result of negligence in home care, scar tissue where a total knee replacement had been implanted was punctured with a non-sterile device, leading to infection. The plaintiff holds the defendants for the alleged infection, failure to adequately treat the wound after the puncture and failure to notify the plaintiff's physician.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensation in excess of $50,000, plus costs of this action. She is represented by Bruce N. Cook of Cook, Ysura, Bartholomew, Brauer & Shevlin Ltd. in Belleville.
