A woman and her husband are suing another couple allegedly responsible for lighting a firework that injured the woman's eye while they were visiting their home.
Brooke Blixt and Kurt Blixt filed a complaint July 23 in Madison County Circuit Court against Quinton and Janice Fluss.
On Aug. 4, 2013, the Blixt's were guests at the Fluss home, at 4 Wheaton Court, Collinsville. On that day, Quinton Fluss lit a firework that, when ignited, struck Brook Blixt in the left eye, causing her to suffer injury, pain and suffering, and medical expenses.
The defendants are cited with negligence for allegedly igniting the firework in a way to injure the plaintiff, to cause it to travel into her face and failing to warn her to move.
Brooke Blixt seeks damages of more than $75,000, plus court costs. Her husband, citing loss of consortium, also seeks damages of more than $75,000, plus costs.
The plaintiff is represented by William S. Beatty of Beatty and Motil in Glen Carbon.
Madison County Circuit Court case number 15L928.
