BELLEVILLE — A woman is suing fellow motorist Spencer Ellis, alleging negligence in connection with a vehicle collision.

Sherese Rainey filed a complaint on Oct. 6 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Ellis, alleging that the motorist failed to exercise reasonable care in operating his vehicle.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on in June 21, she was lawfully operating her vehicle when the defendant negligently attempted to change lanes and sideswiped her vehicle. As a result, her vehicle was forced across the median and collided with oncoming traffic, causing her to sustain severe injuries resulting in pain and suffering, disability and lost wages, she alleges. The plaintiff holds Spencer Ellis responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to reduce speed, maintain a careful lookout and exercise reasonable care.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensation for damages in excess of $50,000 and for such other relief as the court deems just and proper. She is represented by Jarod P. Beasley of Kuehn, Beasley & Young PC in Belleville.
